Conference of dissemination of the project’s results (post conference)
Practices on the grounds! project has reached the faze of dissemination of the results gathered from working with farmers, young pupils and students, as well as through the good practices exchanges made in local farms. Thusly on June 22nd 2023 the Conference of dissemination of results of the project has taken place as a result of the educational activities, the research and pilot activities, the communication with relevant institutions as well as a result of the research done in the sustainable management of the soil.
The project’s team has presented a series of main conclusions drawn from the research done throughout the project. Thusly, main practices of farmers have been presented with regards to the soil management, as well as the local authorities’ perspectives on the matter. Namely the facilities granted to farmers but also the awareness level of farms with regards to their legal rights and obligations in managing the health of the soil and the environment.
The Conference has offered a comprehensive vision on the activities done throughout the project. Thusly, during the educational activity the project has reached over 210 pupils from 5 high schools with an agriculture profile, through information sessions regarding sustainable soil management as well as over 40 university students who helped with the research on the evaluation on the current level of legislation on soil preservation and sustainability. In its research activity in farms the project has reached over 250 farmers from Cluj, Mureș, Bistrița-Năsăud și Alba counties. Over 160 farmers have participated in the self-evaluation process of their own farming techniques and soil management, whilst 40 farmers have benefited from soil analysis through the free Soil analysis programme of the project.
The Conference has offered the ones present an extensive image of the legislative situation on a national and international level regarding soil management. The main legal fundament for the protecting of the soil by law, is the national legislation, which is also the most specific to the soil resources in Romania. Also, various programmes created to support soil sustainability have been mentioned, but also national laws meant to protect the environment and the soil.
An important aspect has emerged from the Conference, this being the lack of information amongst small and medium sized farmers, the lack of specialized education and to granting a sufficient importance to good practices in agriculture. Thusly, the clear information regarding soil and its composition can start from a basis analysis on the composition of soil that a farmer owns. This would be the starting point towards growing productivity and implicitly health and fertility of the soil. The next steps would be to intensify information sessions as well as specialized trainings for farmers to be able to obtain the right information for their crops; respecting national and international legislation by increasing awareness and communication between citizens and authorities; increasing facilities at a local level in order to sustain a green agriculture; etc.
The Dissemination Conference was a success, having multiple participants from different institutions such as: The Environment Guard, Agricultural County Authority, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, Geography University, Economical Sciences University, etc.
The project’s team has wanted to create through this conference an open and easy environment to access overall information in regards to good practices in the sustainability and protection of the soil in agriculture, by compiling the perspectives of all involved parties in the process.
